At Internal changes chapter he started to grow affection for the mares and at the declaration chapter the all of the mares confess how they feel for him but unintensionally cause chaos at the gala and when its dusk turn to tell them how he feel about them only to have it interrupted.

I’m imagining rest of the mane 6 still trying to confess to Dusk and Dusk still being a dumbass well into old age. Everyone around them who have long since lost interest in this neverending show and have all moved on in their lives can only keep watching with ever diminishing interest as a group of old mares too timid to nut up, sit Dusk down and lay their feelings out on the table try endlessly to not get flustered while stuttering out the same confession they’ve been trying to give for 60 years to the only guy in town dense enough to not take a hint after all this time.
