I’ve always seen both as perfectly plausible. Since Equestria Girls never really goes beyond high school, it’s not really certain where Sunset ends up. She could stay in the human world or she could just as easily return to Equestria after High School given that she’s really only going to High School to spend time with her friends. What Sunset is going to do after High School has run its course is one big question mark.

All valid points. I’m mostly thinking on my own justifications for preferring SciSet. Princess Twilight is clearly never leaving Equestria, and Sunset has clearly made a home for herself in this new (oddly unnamed) world. It’s easier to ship the pair that live in the same place. But I also feel like their shared experiences (being corrupted by magic) gives them a solid basis for a relationship. As for Flash and Timber, I mostly just ignore them. Sunset flat out said she didn’t like Flash that way, anyway. And if Katrina Hadley said Sunset is bi, that’s good enough for me.
 
But that’s all just my head canon. However people want to ship characters is fine with me. Hearing people talk about their ships and what fuels them is a big part of what I enjoy about the fandom.

Eh, dunno about that, honestly. PriTwi is the one who ultimately helped Sunset’s life improve to where it is; without meeting her, Sunset probably remains the way she was and never realizes her potential. Plus…there’s no way they made Rainbow Rocks without the knowledge of just how damn shippy some of the interactions between Sunset and Twilight were in that movie. Friendship Through the Ages also has some pretty blatant ship fuel in that same vein, so somehow I doubt it was unintentional.
 
Sci-Twi, by contrast, doesn’t have that kind of thing going on for me as far as clearly-shippy moments goes. Feels more like a BFF situation between them as opposed to an romantic one. And in terms of canon…well, she doesn’t seem to have a thing for girls, considering her crush on Timber is pretty much the only thing she’s really been portrayed with as a romantic thing.
 
It’s all personal preference, at the end of the day, but I agree with SSJG that Sunset ships a little more cohesively with Princess Twi as opposed to Sci-Twi in terms of the canon characters. Obviously AU stuff is a whole other animal, though. :p

Actually, I said I prefer her with the Princess. Sunset and Sci-Twi are cute, but I think she has more in common with original Twilight.

I know it is an old joke, but Sunset is said to be bi, which means that she can have two girlfriends. So why waste that that potential (also she is a pretty good waifu for anyone).

Agreed. While I can see Sunset always being grateful to Twilight for what she did for her, Sunset and SciTwi have a lot more to base a relationship on.

I’ve always preferred Twiset. Just seems like there’s a good bit more substance to their relationship compared to Sciset.
