Up to this stage in her life, Flurry Heart lived like anypony else and loved above all else spending time with her friends. Her mother and father were fine with this as at the time she was just a filly, however things were changing. By Flurry’s late teens, her parents have been hammering hard all of what was to be expected of her as a princess. To her parents shock, Flurry held no enthusiasm for a royal life and everything that came with it and had been a near constant source of tension between them and their daughter.
 
During the school holidays, Cadance and Shining Armor had bared Flurry from traveling to see her friends which was hard on her not seeing her friends for up to two months at a time. She was still allowed to write to them and they could see her, but had to schedule it which there was little time given what her parents were asking of her. But after a repeated string of being caught sleeping in instead of being up before dawn, Shining was now threatening to take away the only form of communication she held with her friends and not allowing them to visit.
 
Flurry: This isn’t fair Dad! Auntie Twilight still gets to be with her friends but why not me!?  
Shining: Because your aunt can schedule time to spend with her friends and perform all of her royal duties, something you just can’t do!  
Flurry: Well maybe I didn’t want to be a princess in the first place!  
Shining: You don’t have a say in this whatsoever young filly! You aren’t a foal anymore! Grow up and understand that you can’t have everything your way and if you keep this behaviour up, you won’t be seeing your friends, period!  
Flurry: PLEASE DON’T!!!  
Shining: Then focus on your royal studies and time management Flurry Heart. When you prove to me and your mother that you can take on this responsibility with dedication and selflessness then you can spend as much time as you want with your friends.
