This is by far the most accurate portrayal of the fandom in any media. It’s so relevant to this day

This was definitely one of the most, if not, the most controversial episode of the series. People who got offended by it were mostly the people depicted in it, whereas the people who liked it were the ones who were annoyed by the brony stereotype and wanted a change in the fandom. I was part of the latter of course.

As someone who’s been an admin on the FiM Wiki since the beginning of 2012, I can honestly say I’ve encountered every type of person in this fandom that was parodied in this episode (even if they weren’t to the extremes that they are in this episode - but that is one of the points of parody, after all).
 
As I see it, this is a nice follow up to Slice of Life, which was a celebration of the fandom - acknowledging and parodying some of the fandom’s… less desirable elements, let’s say.
 
And also, I’m glad that they went with the ending they did (which, from what I recall, was the only significant change from Larson’s original script) - it would’ve felt like a cop out to have the episode end all happy with the arguing factions realizing the error of their ways.
 
As you might be able to tell, I really loved this episode.

Yeah, I know a few others who liked it. I think the fandom deserved it. They had no right to complain about it because it spoke the truth about the fandom.

This episode sends some strange messages.
 
“If you say anything negative about the show, you’re a bad person! And a lunatic! And part of a hate mob!”  
“Criticism is harassment!”  
“Don’t complain about Fluttershy’s character development! Look what you’ve done! You made her cry! Shame on you!”
 
Still, I would forgive all of this nonsense if the final scene went something like this:
 
Starlight Glimmer: Girls! I found two ponies who have something I think you should hear.  
Toola Roola: Um, we just wanted to say thank you. To all of you.  
Coconut Cream: Yeah, our friendship? Well, we were having trouble until we read your journal. It showed us that friends can go through all sorts of tough times and come through stronger than before.  
Toola Roola: It’s made us better friends than we’ve ever been!  
Twilight Sparkle: Really?  
Coconut Cream and Toola Roola: Mm-hmm.  
Toola Roola: All the stories in the journal are great!  
[beat]  
Toola Roola: Except the one about the Mysterious Mare-do-well! That was pants!

I wasn’t bothered by this episode. Just add me to another small minority.

Wheres the part where Starlight was going to murder a couple ponies for badmouthing Rarity. Or the part where Starlight was ready to send a pony into orbit for tormenting Fluttershy?

Ah yes, according to most of the fandom, this was the biggest middle finger to the entire fandom and deserves the most controversy ever.
