Strong maybe. It’s proposed merchandise set to be sold near the time the new MLP movie is coming out. But there’s a lot of potential theories abound with it, all equally valid.
 
1 - It’s a placeholder that’s not set in stone. They only used it to show the general layout of the product (bedding). Subject to change.
 
2 - They’re from early character concepts and subject to change completely.
 
3 - This is the 2D overall design for ponies, but just temporary placeholder characters.
 
4 - They’re the actual characters, but the pony design isn’t set in stone.
 
5 - They’re the actual characters, but just their colors; the character design and the pony design isn’t set in stone.
 
6 - Any of the above, but they purposefully leaked to see how potential buyers (i.e. us) will react so they can make changes accordingly.
 
7 - Welcome your new overlords of the franchise.
