He thought about the day before. He was waiting for Fluttershy to get something from a stand during the market, watching over Angel to make sure he doesn’t scurry off. Angel started tapping him on his paw frantically, making Spike lean down to be eye level with the white rabbit, which he found to be more helpful with how frisky he is.
“What is it?”
Angel pointed towards the stand Fluttershy was as, and as soon Spike turned his head, he felt a little taken aback when he saw a group of stallions father around her and talking to her, making her seem very uncomfortable. Spike felt a pain in his chest. Was this him being jealous and territorial? No matter what it was, he started striding towards the booth until he could hear the voices.
“Don’t you have a special somepony for Hearts n Hooves day tomorrow?” Stallion #1 said.
“U-um, n-no I don’t..”
“Then be with me, sweet thing. I can treat you so nicely that you’ll forget anypony else.” Stallion #2 said a little too creepily, making Spike’s pain grow a bit more.
“N-no thank you..”
“Aw, c’mon sweet cheeks. You need a Stallion in your life. Lemme treat you to something special.” Stallion #3 said.
Spike could see Fluttershy starting to feel panicked as the stallions grew closer to her, making him angry at them. He stepped up, overnight over Fluttershy as to protect her, Angel on his shoulder. He could see the color drain from the stallions faces as Spike grinned, showing his fangs.
“I’m sorry, lads, but you need to stop pursuing in being her special somepony, she’s already spoken for by me.” Spike spoke calmly with a low tone.
“Spike!” Fluttershy looked up at the dragon in surprise, her face blushing a bit. Spike felt his heart beat faster in the sight of the yellow mare’s face brightening up.
The stallions muttered under their breath and turned away.
Now, Spike is at the door. He couldn’t believe he actually did that. Was Fluttershy ok with that? He could feel his tie getting tighter around his neck as he gently knocked on the door.
Oh, how he hoped she didn’t freak her out and ruin things between them. He wouldn’t be able to handle that.
As he waited for a while, he thought that maybe it was best if he left. As he was about to turn around, the red door opened up and Spike’s breath was taken away.
“Hello, Spike.” Fluttershy said to the purple dragon, tucking some hair behind her ear as she looked nervously up at him.
Spike could feel his face heat up as he saw how beautiful she was, all dressed up. And for a split second, he thought that maybe this could work out. He finally cleared his throat, smiled gently and reached his wing out for hers to guide her.
“Are you ready for our..” he paused for a moment, as he couldn’t believe he was saying these words to his best friend, “..our date, Fluttershy?”
Fluttershy giggles softly as she closed the door behind her and placed her wing on his.
“I’ve been waiting all day for this.”
Spike felt his heart skip a beat with those words. He hasn’t felt this happy in such a long time. He smiled down at her and started walking towards Ponyville, knowing this will be a memorable night.
