Kumandra is “somewhere in East Asia”, just like Agrabah is “somewhere in the Middle East”.

I think Kumandra is based mostly on places like Thailand or Singapore.

Yeah, that is true. Then again, that entire movie was set in a fictional world loosely based on Asian culture. Basically like how Avatar: the Last Airbender was based on Asian mythos and culture, as well. So it makes sense for the dragons to be similar, and yet different, from the traditional Chinese dragons.  
Also, I think the reason Sisu has her rather pony-esque face is because the animators figured out that it would make her more likeable. Similar to how the animators changed the face of Kaa the snake in the original Jungle Book movie to make him less frightening.

I don’t think they were going for the Chinese dragon look. They clearly mentioned Sisu’s kin were their own kind of dragon altogether, just based on certain Asian designs.

I never mistook her for a pony. I just think her face looks very similar to the G5 pony faces. Definitely not the type of face you would expect a Chinese dragon to have.

Yep, you can never forget Sisu. She is an awesome dragon (with the face of a pony)

Don’t forget Sisu, Pinkie. She’s just as great.

Honestly, this will be the first film that I actually see in a theater when I watch it later today. Glad to hear it is a good film!
