Especially now that DHX and IDW are having Twilight hate the princess-alicorn bandwagon. She outright stated she didn’t expect or want this princess-hood in DHX approved stories.
 
I mean, can you blame her? She’s an astronomer, a librarian, a mage, and she one day dreams to be a sorcerer as good as Star-Swirled the Bearded…and boom, she has to be a princess because Celestia said-so.
 
(shrug)She was going to have to question what Celestia said at some point, it might as well be now.
 
Its just sad that her most impressive character development and self-realization isn’t even in the show. They TRIED putting it in the show at the beginning of Trade Ya! and Equestria Games, but then they cut those plot threads with a hedge clipper.

…and Twilight was overly judgmental, holier-then-thou and hypocritical then in prior seasons. Making the comparison between Colette and Eddie…entirely pointless.

Let’s look at another example of a character who has changed appearance wise but is basically the same character.
 
Godzilla as Super Godzilla
 

 
Godzilla gone god-mode, given a new form, has had his powers increased tenfold, but is still the atomic-powered badass we all know and love.

And who’s to say its a bad thing? If anything it could put the show in a new direction. The whole world is pretty much their oyster now. And who knows who could show up.

Twilight never truly changed in my opinion BUT she is now royalty which WILL change the show because you can’t go from a librarian to royalty and expect everything to be the same.

While I would generally not blame someone in Twilight’s position, I have to say; ain’t no one tells me who I should and should not love.

But it does change their character, I’m sorry but if you think I can look at a character the same way after they’ve essentially just had a race and title upgrade you must be smoking some strong shit.

Though seriously. WoW Lore was a little wonky but still okay until EVERYONE got derailed in Cataclysm.

And sometimes it’s Devil May Cry.

But it sometimes gets you exiled and making deals with Demon Lords to save yourself and your group of pariahs.
 
And then your character gets derailed in the expansion along with quite a few other canon characters.
