Doodles of a deer
The literal translation of “metsänhaltija” is “forest elf” or “forest keeper”, and as I delved into the old myths, I found that the folktales had many similarities with Tolkien’s description of the Mirkwood elves in the Hobbit. So that is where I began my creation.

Though lacking any particular special talents, Petra was raised in a forest and taught to read the undergrowth and trees to her/his advantage. S/he has even claimed from time to time that there is no forest s/he cannot navigate. Petra seldom talks to strangers, and would rather avoid other creatures altogether. And if angered, s/he becomes vengeful; even blinded by her/his rage.

Still, Petra does approach and help those that are lost to find their way back. Her/his distant attitude towards those s/he meets in the forest, however, does make others distrust her/him a bit. That being said, once befriended, Petra is strongly loyal and loving, and happy to show her/his friends the world s/he was raised in.
