You know one reason why stuff with human skin tones gets downvoted? Because people will not stop bitching about it in both directions. If they’re all white, people bitch that there’s not enough diversity (because you are federally mandated to make friends that are different races than you, ever since the Burger King Kids Club act of 1992) and just as much whining and moaning when they AREN’T, because no matter how many you make what race, you will always have people complaining that they’re wrong.

Agreed. Some can make the diverse cast look really good. Some can screw up a white cast. All depends on the artist.
 
Personally I see Twilight as Asian, cause of her haircut, or tan, cause she’s lavender.

I’ve seen artists that can pull of black Twilight beautifully and make her a look adorable and I’ve seen artists that make her look “bleh”.
 
I personally have Twilight as Asian in my head-canon, but in reality there are no correct ethnic groups for ponies and that fanon interpretation varies.
 
Zecora and Sapphire Shores are black in my head-canon though but that doesn’t make me correct as it is just a personal fanon.

Again, most of the diverse cast pictures suck eggs. The “white washed” ones are generally better quality thus upvotes..

Nobody can agree on their canon skin colors, so it’s best if they just have colors of their fur. All the skin tone edits bother me, no matter what race they are.

Recolors of the original EQ Girls pic with an all white or mostly white cast got upvotes, ones with more diversity got downvotes.
 
Not to mention the fact that whitewashed pics occasionally get more upvotes than the original.

They argue all the time, I’ve seen bigger shitstorms where there is humanized fan-art of Fluttershy wearing a hijab even though she never wore one in the show.
 
I guess this is Hasbro’s way of trying to avoid controversy as they don’t want to assign races/ethnicity to characters that had none.

I think the issue for her is that when her skin color is too dark, it just looks…weird. Clashes with the hair. Color theory, etc, ya know.

I’m okay with people interpreting characters as different races when they make their own human versions. But Equestria Girls here don’t have a race. They aren’t Caucasian, they aren’t Asian, they aren’t Latino… they’re ponies.
