that’s a good point, if this hadn’t been so close to the end of the comic’s run they really should’ve dwelled on that issue some more. my guess is that they have a classism-prejudice issue dating back at least 3 generations, where a bunch of dogs were exiled from Caninia for their perceived ugliness; it could be interesting to see the subject of societal racism tackled through this if handled appropriately

tbh, I like the new design. I tried making a diamond dog oc a few years ago, but I couldn’t make it work right because I thought all of the diamond dogs had to be gruff, gorilla-like brutes. I’m glad to know that there’s some variety in the dogs’ designs.  
After all, there’s more than just one breed of dog. We’re allowed to be creative.

I got to admit that I scratched my head seeing that the current Diamond dogs are able to speak fluent Equestrian, but they’re royalty of sort so I can forgive that a little bit.
 
What really irritates me however is how the OG dogs are kind of dismissed as distant ‘cousins’, as if they’re handwaving the true monstrous diamond dogs as nothing more than a footnote that can be ignored when they’re essentially one of the more unique races introduced in the show. Its like sweeping the dirty evil dogs under the carpet of the newer and more beautiful dogs you know what I mean - and its just irritating.

The pretty dogs. It was in the context of the diamond dogs. Also, Chrysalis isn’t pretty, sorry. I’d even argue Nightmare Moon isn’t particularly pretty, or that Luna ended up prettier than her.

If it comes to that then I’ll be cool with it! And here I was expecting the girl/queen dogs to have proper ‘doggo’ names, but if the OG ‘cousin’ dogs will have proper names(with surnames and all that flair) then so be it!

Have gone through the comic. Just like Dimondia, the capital lies partly in the open, partly underground - and it is clear that this is located in an inaccessible valley between the mountains, with several gorges or canyons. Garcia may not have had time to fill in the background of the two castles in the residence so that only bare grasslands can be seen. These fascinating combination cars called “go cars” are obviously meant to cross canyons, climb the hills, down into the caves and through a broken terrain which then means that the area where the residence is located is not so flat. These are an important means of transportation through the kingdom.
 
The diamond dogs did not need a cultural landscape in contrast to the ponies as they are omnivorous with a penchant for meat, but perhaps the grasslands were intended for cattle farming. As much of the transport took place underground, it may seem that the kingdom is actually deeply decentralized, where the residence did not function as a city like Canterlot, but as an administration site with educational facilities for diamond dogs from all over the kingdom and even further afield. This may explain why Dimondia, which was little more than a castle with a village around it, could exist as part of Caninia. So there is room for more heads of state beyond a single queen, because it seems that the diamond dogs believe very strongly in autonomous rights within their kingdom. The residence housed the soul of civilization for the Diamond dogs.
 
Given that Dimondia is located in the northwest of the town of Seaddle in what was not easily accessible land, and in the abandoned mining towns of the Appaloosan Mountains (south of or part of the Macintosh hills) south of Ponyville - this must mean that Caninia is located within Equestria . The underground roads that can be operated with the rail-leading go cars make it possible to avoid the ponies either through inaccessible mountains or in caves, so it is possible to have a physical separation between the two kingdoms despite the circumstances. As Rarity and her expedition went on foot on familiar roads and came up on mountain areas where the Dog head mountain is located, it means that the journey was short. Maybe just a few days at most.
 
I think the residence is located in the Unicorn Range and Caninia encompasses the entire western part of Equestria with a large number of small enclaves such as Dimondia. The diamond dogs were a bit too civilized in Garcia’s comic, but it is known from before that there was minimal contact between them and the ponies, and that there was not a good relationship between the kingdom of Caninia (The ziggy-dog that Celestia visibly disliked in FiM # 61, may be the sisters’ father) and Equestria.
 
This hypothesis about the mysterious diamond dog in Mount Metazoa that had never been presented to readers can be linked to the fact that the six sisters did not seem to reign so long in Caninia. It is less than two years between the conference in Mount Metazoa and Rarity’s trip to Caninia. Since the diamond dogs do not believe in statehood as one can form their own pack one voluntarily joins or leaves, it is possible that he let his older daughter rule the sister pack and thus the place of residence. In older kingdoms it was not uncommon for a king to crown his son as king to secure the succession, so that an older king could let his daughter be queen. Probably he had either resigned or passed away, so the sisters can receive the message from Twilight and send out the invitations in response.
 
It’s like with Abyssinia, a new generation has taken over almost at the same time as the events of the last years of the G4 took place. At least we now know that Caninia is not a traditional territory as a kingdom, it is possible that the diamond dogs have overseas colonies and coastal ports very far away from where the place of residence (which may be called the same as the kingdom?) - and thus may have came in contact with the Abyssinians who were driven traders until the Storm King went on the attack. The relationship between the diamond dogs and the abyssinian cats was very conflict-ridden, seen repeatedly in the IDW comics - and confirmed in S9.

A little confusing here. Ment Caninia is located west of Canterlot, the ponies came from the east. I’m sorry about that.

So far very good, the confidence oozes from the work that Garcia has put into this comic. It is interesting that the diamond dogs have matriarchal rule with queens and princesses, in Equestria the princess title is not meant to be hereditary or political, as this is used about alicorns in modern times.
 
Caninia, like Equestria (until Twilight took over), is a duality with two queens ruling separately. Perhaps Equestria had been a very important source of inspiration for the diamond dogs. And it is possible that Caninia, like Equestria, has supremacy over smaller principalities such as Dimondia, which had Trixie as queen. Dimondia is not far from Seaddle northwest of Canterlot. And we know that one of the abandoned mining towns that Katherina may refer to as “the sacred mines” was south of Ponyville. Then it could mean that Caninia encompasses all diamond dog territories from northwest to south of Canterlot, and thus lies in the immediate vicinity of the pony’s core land in Equestria.
 
I think … from the northeast where Galloping Gorge is located, through the Smokey Mountains and down to Ghastly Gorge south of Ponyville where there are several mountain ranges and sparsely populated regions where the ponies mostly just passed through from the west coast to central Equestria. The Appaloosan Mountains were probably the southernmost end of Caninia - and there was a small mountain range south of the Macintosh hills. Something had happened there, for the mines and towns that diamond dogs had created were abandoned as if they had been hastily evacuated. Perhaps war or an internal uprising, which had made the region around Appaloosan Mountain up to Ponyville a lawless area with bandits and gangs forming small independent flocks. We know that the ponies have their own mining business, so the diamond dogs are not “everywhere”, but they were not interesting in metal and ore.
 
The dog head mountain may be in the Unicorn Range, perhaps the ponies had Caninia under their own domination once, and that these mountains were called something else until the unicorns gave the current name of the mountains there. Maybe “Diamond Mountains” or “the Gem Range”? The Unicorn Range in my opinion is the best candidate for the diamond dogss capital of the underground kingdom that once in the past may have dominated the entire present western Equestria, and since we know several diamond dogs had gone out to sea, it means that several colonies may have been established on the west coast or even on the east coast.   It is possible that Abyssinians as traders had come out for the diamond dogs who with their superiority complex would only regard merchant vessels as legal prey for looting. This was the beginning of a very strained relationship between the cat people and the dog people, so much so that both consider it a gross insult to call each other "cats" or "dogs". Rarity did not realize what mistake she was making.   At least we know that the diamond dogs and the ponies until recent times did not have a good relationship because the latter had invaded and annexed what was diamond dogss land, even if the surface was barely used. Equestria just as America in our world had expanded from the west (more correctly from the center with Canterlot where the founders of Equestria had settled) to the east.
