Maybe we should ask this fellow for help concerning our purchases? He looks knowledgeable. What kind of supplies would we need?
You ask the shopkeeper for advice on what repair supplies you should bring on a small sailboat.
Shopkeeper: “First time on the sea, eh? Well, no sense in bringin’ a whole spare ship; that’s what the ‘yards are for!
All ye need is somethin’ to patch ‘er up. Then, ye just stay on yer sea legs and keep air in yer lungs long enough to get to the nearest port. Here, I’ll teach ye the ropes.”
The shopkeeper teaches your party the basics of plugging holes, caulking seams, tying knots, and other useful skills he recommends any sailor should have. He then provides you with a short list of materials you might need.
Moonflower helps you pay half of the cost. You trade 42 Gold Bits for Caulking Iron, 20 Flat-headed Nails, 5 Oakums, 5 Planks, 2 Ropes, 2 Sailcloths, 5 Screw Hooks, 5 Wooden Wedges.
After thanking the shopkeeper for his help, you exit the Trading Post headquarters, and carry the supplies back to the port area to unload them. Once the repair supplies aboard, you find that the boat’s cabin looks a little packed, thought it makes you feel better prepared.
Sunrays begin to pierce brightly through the fog above as your hooves return to the white cobblestone ground. Not far from the nearby ramp down to the wooden piers, a familiar griffon lands and calls out to you.
Gerwalta: “Finally done here?”
You greet Gerwalta, and tell her that you are planning to set sail after lunch this afternoon.
Gerwalta: “About that, I’ve been thinking about your offer. Like I said, I wouldn’t want to be turning down easy bits for this job, then turn up empty-taloned.
So here’s my conditions: I’ll take fifty bits up front, then half of whatever treasure you find on your little adventure as payment. Do we have a deal?”
