She never seemed to care much for Flash’s horse counterpart.

Rarity being a full-on lesbian and not just bisexual would be an easy sell in canon, considering the guys that she chased after represented status more than attraction. She expressly wanted to win Blueblood so that Canterlot High Society would “see her as a Lady” and equal, and Trenderhoof had celebrity appeal and was the supposed arbiter of what was “in” at the time. For someone who hasn’t worked things out about herself yet, it would be very easy to mistake the excitement over winning the attention of such influential ponies as attraction when she wasn’t really enthusiastic about other males.
 
Conversely, it’s hard to see Twilight as anything but either Bisexual or heterosexual with the guys that she has canonically been attracted to.

Because Rarity is canonically straight while Applejack is just implied together with Rainbow due to desperation?  
It’s like when the director of Equestria Girls kept barfing her favorite ship all over the show—no matter how hard she tries to force it, it’s not as canon as any of the fan’s ships, but that didn’t stop her from trying.

Why didn’t this happen instead of Appledash
