Fluttershy and Spitfire have completely different flying styles. Fluttershy’s wings mimic that of an albatross, so she’s actually more of a smooth glider than a rapid flier. Spitfire on the other hand has falcon-shaped wings, which allow her to fly at incredible speeds. As a kid she was nicknamed “Peregrine” and used to use that as her racer name.
Pegasi are the most colorful of all pony species. Vibrant colors are attractive, while dull coloration is less desirable. Fluttershy’s coat doesn’t exactly stand out, and would most likely be considered desirable in unicorn standards, not pegasi. Spitfire, in contrast, has an extremely attractive coat pattern. Lack of bright colors isn’t such a big deal if a pony has really unique markings. Spitfire has both.
Fluttershy has socks (different colored legs), a blaze (marking above nose), and sweetnose (pink nose splotch). They both have some variation of countershading. Spitfire has a non-connecting mask, which means she’s got two separated eye splotches completely covering her eyes. Hers kinda look like burn scars. Technically Spitfire has socks too, but hers are much more defined. She has a saddle as well (marking on shoulders and back), which is inherited by their daughter Piper.
Fluttershy is the one who asked Spitfire out first. Spitfire was shocked, but she hid it well and played it cool.
