I know nothing about MtG, but a few friends of mine play it. Never got into cards, I played like DnD and Warhammer.
It’s not bad, just really shitty story telling. I write fantasy fiction as a hobby, the way they do things in that show annoy me. There was one ep that had a 10 minute block of exposition, 10 fucking minutes1

Basiclly, take the Star War’s opening text scroll, turn it into a fantasy story, then play it over sex scenes and battles and you have Game Of Thrones. A perfect model of “Telling” and not “Showing”.
