I think the point is not that they won’t get to talk to someone famous, but more that they’ll be just another nopony in a see of background ponies that nopony cares about.

Anyone can go up to them and say hi. Seriously. Just like anything in life, grow some ’nads, keep your act together and say “hi”.

Also, Pixelkitties and Jayson Thiessen are both awesome.

I always think talking to a celebrity from something you really like would just end up in disappointment eventually. It’s like, you get to meet them but only once, and no one is going to just be your friend just because you’re one of the millions of fans. It’d be great if they made it onto your speed dial kinda like how TheAmazingAtheist knows Howard Bloom, but rarely do any of us get that kind of fortune.
It would make more sense if you were a popular blogger or something, cuz then you could take pictures and be like “I’m So&so, the guy who made Popular webcomic X and here I am at Bronycon talking to Tara Strong!” but instead it’s just the only one memory you have only to yourself. Doubly so if your friends don’t like ponies. You could be an artist and have made like 50-something pictures but it takes a lot to be well-known in a circle that nets you quality connections.

I like how Soarin’ was so popular at the Gala, but over time was forgotten by the writers.

RIP Soarin’, we hardly knew you.

That’s only if it’s a major convention. On smaller ones I would imagine you’ll just be walking around awkwardly among other awkward people, staring blankly at the handful of the alleged brony “celebrities” they invited.

Seriously, I’m going to a con at the end of this month here in Moscow and the only Russian brony celebrity that I know of is Lenich, because he contributed to FiW. Although I’ve heard that some of the guys I hung out with at the meet-ups in my hometown started an MLP-themed band while I was away and even played a few gigs, I’m not sure if they’re notable enough to count.

I have attended two cons.
You WILL talk to somebody important if you are polite about it, it’s not too hard, and they want you to in a lot of cases cases. (Q & A and Artist Shops especially.)
Just don’t force it at an inappropriate time or sound entitled and you will be fine. (During a panel speach

Hey

I could never be as cool as Rainbow Dash

You take that back

Though it would be cool if I saved Jayson and Meghan’s lives.
