Its already confirmed to be a spinoff and will have no effect on the main series. I don’t see how this can go wrong as long as the characters retain their… well, character. Oh and it needs to not have shit animation.
I was going to make a point by point rebuttal, but I notice it can all be summarized by:
1.)How is all that relevant to the fact I provided a good example of something we most people can agree is pretty horrible but still seem to have overwhelmingly positive response in most cases? You argue most people liked it, I countered that we don’t have a good way of knowing this and pointed out the Internet is a terrible place to make said assumption because of counter-example like those I provide. Your sensibilities are meaningless, so counter my point.
2.) The fandom’s things you mentioned are unimportant to the point I made and the fact you are comparing an element which is likely to be ever present to one which the writers essentially wrote away into a netherland which reduce exposure tells me you don’t understand the nature of the issue.
3.) Some people wanted Celestia to die off and Twilight to take her place. It doesn’t mean it is a good idea, so arguing some people wanted that is, again, missing the point.
4.) And the same people who now a large number of people don’t feel like putting their hands in the fire for because they were less underwhelmed or disappointed by a weak season. You act as though the other side doesn’t have a large number of valid points, which means you will most likely deflect this whole post, if I come to think about it
Also, if this was the series ending, I would have been horribly disappointed by the same reasons a lot of people have said they disliked the episode.
Now, I take a break.
But that´s what i’m saying. Back then in 2011 they wrote this in mind that it could become the series finale. So ofc it feels like one.
The nod to do S4 came way later in summer 2012 when the S3 had already begun to air.
I liked how Twi became an alicorn through a team effort aka through her friends friendship=magic and not all on her own. Princesshood was not much needed from my POV but as long as she stays in Ponyville and has more adventures with her friend she can be a student, a libraian or a princess for all i care.
Now, this series finale turned out to be a seasonal final. We gonna see how the writers will cope with a Twilicorn princess but given what we got from them till now and what they told us about it (“most epic thing with pony in it”) then S4 might not be the end of the world as many bronies make it seem to be.
And i’m honestly glad we got more than just 65 MLP:FiM episodes. I really wanna see it going over 100 and more. Whenever Twi got wings or not. :D
I can get why people didn´t liked it, cause they dont like musicals, it was too rushed for them, they hate Twilight, hate Twilicorn, hate princess Twilight Sparkle and so on.
But to go and say that this makes all 64 past episodes also shit, is just stupid.
Same for saying that the future 26 ones will be all shit and not worth watching.
There´s a difference between giving critic/beigg disappointed and being an ass who wants to get everyone else to feel as bad as himself.
You´re of the first part Hurricane, but i´ve read enough comments of people which were the latter to know that there are some people who don´t give a damn about anyone liking it going as far as saying that those who enjoyed the finale/like Twilicorn are not real bronies but Hasdick-sucking cunts.
So i´m sorry you didnt liked it as much as i did. I hope with time and several rewatches you might come to like it or that you can deal with it in another way like saying, lets wait for the other 2/3 to see how this will continue.
For all we know Twi could lose or give up her wings/title in the first two episodes of S4.
@Background Pony
Pretty fucked up if you ask me to compare rape and pedophilia with a kids show that aims to teach children the values of friendship without making the parents commit brain suicide.
People should
A) get off their high horse thinking that this show is for bronies and about their needs, its not. Last time they did soemthing for us, we turned it into Derpygate and shit in their mouth. We get a documentary, we pirate it. And so on.
B) they should not act as if MLP decides all of their lives as if its the last thing that is important to them. It shouldn´t be, its a show. it can be a part of them, but their main focus/meaning in life should be their family, friends and themselves, not colorful animated ponies.
C)They should act as grown-ups and not base all negativity on stuff we haven´t seen and won´t seen for the next 8-9 months. Same for EG. We can´t base on a single concept art or logo if the show will be the worst shit under the sun. After all that wouldn´t make us any better than the people way back then who said the same stuff abotu MLP:FiM before the show aired.
As for the car, i´d repair it. Cheaper than getting a new car and a whole new bunch of debts cause of it.
Besides we had many episodes where people threw shitstorms, big and small. Like the S2 finale about Twi´s big bro and Cadance. And yet the show still continued and many loved S3 or liked it alot. And some of those people who did so where those who had thrown their tantrums in S2 finale.
Cadance/Shining did not destroy the show nor the brony fandom. Instead they got many comics, tumblrs and fanfics and fanart made for them. They, together with Chrysalis and her changelings, were added to the MLP-universe and the majority accepted them or even came to like/enjoy them.
So i can´t take it seriously when people go and either say that the show as a total is crap now that Twi got wings and is a few inches higher than the others (which is was some actually wanted, that they got different heights/body types) or to say that the coming seasons will all be piss-poor shit as if they had exchange the whole staff behind MLP with new people who don´t give a fuck about the show.
Its still the same people who wrote, animated and spoke MLP. That didn´t changed and that will not change just cause somepony found her “true destiny” and became an alicorn princess.
@Background Pony
Well, you could watch it now on Youtube. It got great songs. Hopefully Ingram will release the full “Gotta find a way” song. Can´t wait to hear the complete version of it. <3
The biggest issue I personally, and a lot of people I know who like the show, was that the ending to season 3 felt like it wasn’t earned. It was a series finale, not a seasonal one. In an ideal world, they would have held it off for one more season, and ended season 3 with the Equestrian Games, which will likely be the opening to season 4, depending on where they go with Princess Sparkle.
Keeping the princessdom/godhood(?)/alicorn tranformation back could have lead to a much BIGGER finale. Have the latter half of season 4 as wrapping everything up, for example, in one episode, RD could be made an official wonderbolt. In another, Rarity could have gotten a contract to work for a high end style boutique in canterlot. Heck, have Pinkie need to be drafted in to organise a Grand Galloping Gala. Have EVERY pony except Twilight going on with amazing, life fulfilling things, their dreams finally realised.
AND THEN. 2 part series finale. Twilight has been left alone in Ponyville for a few months, with her friends all working away. Lamenting that she was sent to Ponyville to make friends, and now that she has them, they’ve all gone. Then the elements go haywire, because of Twi experimenting with Starswirl’s book, and EVERYTHING is wrong. The girls are all miserable, Celestia is angry, the whole world is beginning to go belly up.
Twi tries EVERYTHING to fix it, even delving into Sombra’s darkest magic. Eventually, she figures out the spell’s true purpose, and gathers everyone up. Channeling magics even she didn’t know she had, she makes it all right. She corrects the entire WORLD. BOOM. Alicorn. Princess.
Thus ends the ponyville arc. And begins the Canterlot Chronicles. And it was God. Damn. Earned.
But, alas, it was not to be.
Shrug. The internet is widely known for not actively going about giving negative opinions about things as much as it can help it, with the bulk being done by small group of individuals whom enjoy watching people ‘suffer’ under their harrasement. Negavity, then, is actually for the most part underrepresented because people actively don’t feel like griffing about things they hate is a bad thing. Hell, as evidence, please go to any rape, pedophilia, or other similar subject matter story and tell me with a straight face the flood of praise is because it has a wide appeal to a large majority of individuals rather than, say, the supporters being actually the louder minority.
Also, if you normally drive your car around without any trouble, but one good day it ignites for no discernible reason, do you keep using the car in hopes it doesn’t do it again, or you just get a new one? That single episode has made it so the suspension of disbelief through out the future of the show be in quite a lot of danger, so continuing to watch it will be done with a nagging feeling all is wrong.
I never said I didn’t like the episode. I wouldn’t know since i didn’t see it.
Lol.
The bronies may be fans, but they are hardly the main target of the MLP staff. They focus on the little girls and their parents watching it who actually buy the Hasbro products.
Bronies hardly buy Hasbro products, they pay lots of money for show-acurate merchandise of other bronies but Hasbro´s products are hardly brony dreams.
Also from what i see on youtube//EQD comments and even /mlp/ the large majority liked the S3 finale. Its just that the minority who disliked it very much is also very loud about it.
And honestly, to leave a fandom/show cause of one episode must be the dumbest thing i´ve heard. Well, besides other fucked-up dumb stuff we humans tend to do on a regulary base.
One “bad” episode (mind you that´s entirely a personal opinion = your opinion IS NOT the opinion of everyone in the show) doesn´t make all other 64 episodes also bad.
You will always have someone who diliked an episode. Heck, i disliked Wonderbolts academy which is well-liked by the majority of bronies. It just doesn´t click with me.
So yeah, i don´t think they “messed it up”, given that it got a 4th season, a hugely succesful comic series and a spin-off for an older girls audience target.
They got very good writers who can work with what they got (they worked Twi´s ballon, RD`s pet, etc all that very well and loved by the fans into the show. Or do you want to tell me you HATE Tank cause Hasbro wanted it in the show???), an awesome studio who got great animations ready for the show and VAs who are should be worthshipped as goddesses cause they can give those characters so much life and love with their voices.
just wait till S4 begins. I tell ya till then alot of those who “left” the fandom, will return. Like always.^^
Then it’s really to bad they messed it up… with all the fans leaving, it would have been better off to end it like that.
You do know the alicorn episode was written in Novemeber 2011?
That the MLP staff wrote, spoke and animate S3EP13 with the thought that it might be the very last episode of MLP G4 they will make?
That it was basically considered THE END of MLP back then (not that we the fans knew of it, but the writers and co had to wait till summer 2012 till Hasbro said “this show is printing money, lets do a 4th season, a comic series and a spin-off for teen girls!”)?
Yes?
No?

I suspect that the alicorn thing is here to stay.
…how come they have wings, but no horns?
…
Don’t tell me they forced alicorn!Twilight to be canon just so they could make the spinoff even. Three…uhh…humans?…with wings and three without…
And AGAIN with the different wing styles. x.x
You’re not alone.
Older target audience means: Monster High audience. I wouldn’t count on very deep plots…
It’s suppose to be geared toward older audience, so they can’t be ponies, because that would confuse the younger audience. Perhabs it has themes not suited for them. That’s what I think, at least…
