The observers present, an Arcane Institute researcher and a military officer, had doubts about whether Ms Fate could successfully complete the resurrection spell. Only the Empress herself was known to be capable of such magic, and according to Ms Fate she’d done this specific spell once before and it was only moments after the resurrectees death. The spell required simultaneously healing the broken body to a functioning state and dragging the creature’s soul back from wherever the souls of the damned go, which, needless to say, is something only an extremely talented mage could ever hope to pull off.
Luckily, Grim Fate was an extremely talented mage. It took everything she had, but the soldier who had been beheaded by bandits had been truly brought back to life, with all their thoughts and memories intact, even if they themselves were disoriented and terrified in the moment. Ms Fate revelled in her achievement, secure in the knowledge that not only was she the great mage that she thought she was, but that she had at long last found a place where she could practice all sorts of dark and twisted magic to her heart’s content.
“Hey uh, did we just conquer death?” The researcher asked.
“Silly, service to Empire and Empress has always been the path to immortality.” The officer replied.
“No but seriously, did we just conquer death?”
