I mean Shawn Keller already based both Athena and Lustrous on MLP a lot, and it’s kind of obvious he does watch MLP. This isn’t really surprising.

Except Athena’s headdress has a reddish hue at the wing tips.
 
And they have a swept-up design while Rainbow Dash’s are more swept back.
