The mountain in the picture … I think it is Mount Canterhorn (fanon), they have cut off the top of it and built the rest of the city on the other mountain peaks probably in the northeast and east direction, as footage from the southeast in S2, G4 has revealed it is a series of trailing mountains behind the Mt. Canterhorn. Then it could mean that Canterlot may have been left intact for a long time down, possibly as ruins - and it may be that much of the city was reused for the construction of the Pegasi city (of which we do not have a name - yet), as remains from the equestrian The Royal Palace is found in the Pegasi Royal Palace. The pegasi is shameless; they imitate their old enemies in Canterlot.
 
As soon as Queen Haven is released (it would be very strange if she were arrested for lying to her people - then all the politicians in our world would have been arrested for lying - every day) and the magic is returned, it is possible that the unicorns will be allowed to move back to Canterlot. And they can be allowed to see what the pegasi had created in their absence.
 
We will discover a lot of new things about this city and its surroundings down to where Everfree / Ponyville is located - so this will be a common sight in the rest of the G5.
