If I was in that situation I would just cut off the bottoms of my hoves off. Ain’t got time for that.

Indeed, I headcanon that whatever letter represents the first phoneme in their word for “hoof” (“Rot” in my case, so “R”) is a heart, and was derived from a logogram for a hoof.
