Aye. And Tirek himself doesn’t even truly understand the point you made. Because he is obviously still extremely proud of his father, despite Vorak dismissing him since he was born—that’s actually from the official comics even. So what has Vorak done to earn that pride if he’s always thought Tirek was a bad seed, never tried to help his talents grow, never rewarded any efforts to become more like what he apparently thought a “true” prince should be like? What has Vorak done to help Tirek?
It really needs to be addressed that Applejack and Rainbow are basically preaching to the choir.
Tirek tried that. Repeatedly. And Vorak drove a stake into it at every turn.
Comparing Vorak to Tirek fails to account for the lack of agency and the fact Vorak could easily have his own skeletons in the closet.
Being a ruler and being liked doesn’t always mean one was good at the job-it can mean good PR and information manipulation while being markedly mediocre.
Something Haydon seems to have anticipated at least a little. She knew Tirek was magically gifted and admonished Vorak for not nurturing it. But since Vorak didn’t feel like directing his son’s gift into positive ways rather than suppress it, Tirek learned from the one teacher he had access to—which happened to be Sendak and his power-draining spell.
Ironically, by doing this, Vorak created just the monster he was affraid Tirek would become.
Talk about a self fulfilling prophecy.
