This scene makes me think a lot. Hitch has responsibilities for all of Maretime Bay, and a job to do to maintain law and order, but also seems to be Sunny’s only real friend in Maretime Bay. I get angry with Hitch, because I think he could be a bit more supportive here, but I also wouldn’t want to be on his position, because it is a difficult one. What do you guys think?

He specifically asked her before the showcase: “I’m asking you as your friend, not as sheriff, please don’t do what I know you’re probably planning on doing.” Sunny of course went ahead with her plan anyway, and while her motivation and intentions were indeed pure and commendable, the fact is she still deliberately ignored her closest friend’s plea and essentially betrayed his trust with little thought given to how he would feel. It’s understandable that afterwards he was more than a little ticked off at her, perhaps even to the point of saying things he wouldn’t normally ever say.
It’s an apt analogy.
Also Godwin’s Law isn’t some rule of debate (and it wouldn’t be “broken” in this case) It’s an observation on how debates go. Also the spirit that observation is that one side in a debate will unfairly compare their opponents to Nazis. I used Nazis themselves as an example of modern perspectives. How about you come up with something more original than word-association gotchas?
Godwin’s Law broken again. Maybe try bringing up something more original than Nazis?
Literally try to imagine one of your friends constantly telling you that Nazis are great people and we should be welcoming them and extending the hand of friendship to them, that all the stories you heard about them including what history class taught you are somehow all wrong.
I could not disagree with you more on this. After all, I think Sunny is fantastic for trying to break everypony else out of their own cult-like beliefs regarding how ‘bad’ unicorns and pegasi are. Hitch tried to keep the status quo, which is wherein lies the issue: he shouldn’t have been so stubborn about not accepting the other species! Then again, I guess I could say that for most characters. While you might say Sunny is a ‘conspiracy theorist’, in reality she is the only pony that actually tried to get everypony else to cooperate. And, in the end, it worked, largely due to Izzy’s kindness and Zipp’s willingness to listen to opposing ideas. For that reason, I wouldn’t ever consider Hitch to be a ‘true friend’ at the beginning of the show, though he does improve by the end.
Hitch always tries to settle things peacefully, he listens, he compromises where he can, he tries to understand, he gives lots of leeway.
Sunny is all-in on her philosophy, and pushes it hard all the time, breaks rules, and she’s pretty demanding. Name one instance where she tried to compromise with Hitch and give him something he wanted. You can’t.
We know Sunny is right, but that’s Fourth Wall Myopia. Inside the pony world, Sunny is more like a religious nut or conspiracy theorist.
