…Huh. That works. Especially if Hitch becomes more and more the Morality Chain/Pet or Token Good Teammate for Sunny’s descent into villainy.
And it would be the height of irony for him to start Sunny’s journy by saying “you can’t changed their minds with a speech,” and the thing that ultimately causes Sunny’s machinations to fall apart… Is Hitch making a big speech.
Basically saying that what she is doing is wrong, and it’s pretty clear the enemies of her regime of her own making, and no one actually wants to fight, and her army starts slinking away.

All awesome ideas.
I like the Swiss confederation style government of Earth Ponies. I might use that idea for later. Maybe the pegasi could have a more absolutist government like the Russian Empire or Byzantine Empire.
Perhaps Pipp would go on a journey for selfish reasons but from her singing she would have new nin pegasus fans she would warm up to the idea of being a star for all ponies.
And the other ideas are cool too
Pretty sure the Pegasi being an Absolutist Monarchy was a given. To be honest I would figure that they were more like Liechtenstein, given the obvious wealth per capita.
And you put a perfect image in my head. For one reason or another, Pipp is saddled with looking over a few foals - Unicorn or Earth Pony - and she calms them down with ‘an old old folk song,’ Hush Now, Quiet Now. A nice bit of continuity.

What a story that would be for Sprout. There would have to be a few more characters and details added on for the journey to come into fruition, but it could be interesting.
It would be interesting to also have it be over a longer timespan.
I like that the AU changes not just a few details but multiple ones too. (Of course I hope Izzy would appear in the story later on and maybe Hitch would join Sprout eventually, perhaps even Haven could go out of vacation to help)
Perhaps Haven, in the midst of a Second Childhood Crisis (‘By the Sun and Moon I am getting OLD!’), she has a post-mid life teen rebellion by dating… A unicorn.
“Hey there Izzy!”
“Alphabittle? What are you doing here?”
“And WHY were you SNOGGING my MOTHER?!”
“Zipp! That’s no way to talk to your Step-father!”
“Step-WHAT?!”
“OMC Pippsqueaks! Old Pony Love, isn’t it cute?! Though it’s also my mom. So. Ew.”
Then everyone turns around at the sound of someone eating and sees Sprout munching on trail mix like he’s watching a movie.
“…What?”
What can I say? I have always been a fan of Beligerent Sexual Tension, AB and Haven’s first encounter tripped those breakers for me (even created the tag ‘Stepdad Alphabittle’), and it’s quite frankly hilarious and awesome, and ties into the concept of maybe others could have learned to take up the torch of Harmoney.
And as the above shows, obviously part of the plot is Sprout getting the canon gang together, though in different circumstances (he causes a mad panic in Bridlewood rather than Izzy in Maretime Bay, Zipp is now supposed to be responsible and is absolutely chaffing under the lies vs her dreams, so she is likely to go live on air and tell Zephyr Heights about the fake flying, and that she’s going to fix it), Pipp… I really want Pipp to have more than she was in the movie so maybe she comes voluntarily. ‘For the content’ at first, then… Hopefully I can come up with something.
One idea would be incorporating headcanons for the successor governments for the Earth Ponies and Unicorns. For the Earth Ponies I figure a loose, vaguely held together confederation, sort of like a much looser Switzerland, with each city state having a different model of government (hence how canon!Sprout could just make up titles for himself), so part of Sunny’s evil plan here is to force the Earth Ponies into a unified state.

That’s such an awesome concept. I can imagine Sprout saying something like “This isn’t what your father would have wanted.” I love it. :P
Yes. And deep inside Sunny knows it to. Thankfully it’s MLP so she doesn’t HAVE to die, she just needs to be convinced she had the right idea the first time, have an emotional breakdown, and accept the consequences.
The real question is what to do with magic returning. It feels wrong for Sprout to get the Alicorn ethereal wings and horn, no matter how much he has changed in this setting. But Sunny sure and hellfire isn’t worthy. This is - hopefully - something the tv show can address with regards to what that detail is all about.

Oh this is so good! And if we’re going to incorporate the above image, how about this for an AU Storyline:
Picture it, a timeline where Izzy Moonbow never came to Maretime Bay. Perhaps the little baloon never made it to Bridlewood, meaning she never had the tiny sparkle of Hope to motivate her to leave the safety of the forest. And after Hitch’s ultimatum, Sunny changes tactics, adopting the trappings of inter-tribal paranoia in order to worm her way into the halls of power in order to get a hoof-hold in order to force the change she requires. Starting down a long, slow, irreversible slide to Despotism and Tyranny. With the end goal being a methodically plotted conquest of Equestria for Enforced Harmony.
And in parallel to this story is Sprout. Perhaps being sidelined for Sunny is enough to get him to actively seek his own path out of his mother’s shadows, and in the process he starts to find the same stories Argyle did, slowly re4alizing that, maybe, he was right all along. Starting a path of redemption as Sunny falls down a path of Damnation.
Finally, realizing the only way Sunny’s journey can end - likely after this scene - Sprout goes out on a quest to try and see if he can revive Harmony the correct way, facing fears that have controlled him and his tribe for generations, seeking out the Unicorns and the Pegasi.
Given the longer timeline, perhaps he meets Queen Zipp Storm, Haven having long abdicated for one reason or another (likely in order to vacation on the beach or something), and starting a wild ride to curtail the coming storm of war.
Holy SHIT I want this fan fic!

I think it’s better Sunny knows her mother simply as a normal mother who stayed with her husband because she loved him and left because of fate, instead of a mother that left her husband because he wished to bring harmony back to Equestria. It would be even harder for Sunny to know even her own mother didn’t have faith in her father. :P

Exactly, she’s tired of ponies ignoring and forgetting about her father, even after his death. It’s like her father means nothing to them. She would totally be pissed about that. I’m not sure about why her mother is gone though. I like it better if her mother has been gone since her birth. I know it’s cliche but I don’t want Sunny to hate her mom too. :P

I can imagine this is what would happen to Sunny if Izzy never met her. She might be a nice girl but she probably has a bitterness deep down.
I also headcanon that Argyle’s wife left him because of his beliefs. I bet Sunny would have enough of other ponies mocking and disrespecting her father’s legacy.

I never realized how little Argyle was mentioned by Maretime Bay citizens until I saw this. I imagine if Sunny were ever to turn evil and bitter, it would be because of negligence and disrespect toward her father from everyone around her. That’s a pretty good motivation, at least in my mind. :P
