While I can see why people wouldn’t ship rarity and maud, I mean look at their first interaction, I think there is plenty of potential. Of course, I think any ship can work, but that some will require a lot more effort to get to work well.
 
For rarimaud I could see Rarity buying gems from maud or going on trips to get some together. Then Maud talks about gems and something related to the way that light goes through them or something which gives Rarity inspiration. Since Maud is there already she begs her to be a model for some jewelry and she agrees because “I get to wear rocks” which eventually leads to full outfits, of course with gem accessories.
 
And eventually one of them kisses the other.
 
Plus they got the ppsdwr now for bringing Rarity with her and Pinkie on their special swap day thing. Maybe eventually instead of a proper present swap, one of them offers the other an engagement ring.
 
Yes I overthink things sometimes >< part of me wants to write a fanfic using this basic formula.

I found that pony-shipping comes easy because many ponys have a properly developed character ^^ (in other cases it just because they look neat and stand next to each other)

honestly i can see maud and rarity being close because of gemstones. I sorta like shipping them too but i know everyone gets shipped with everyone at some point.
