I don’t get this though. I understand it was for non fans, but I don’t get why they thought someone who didn’t care about the brony fandom would pay money to watch a documentary about it.

While it may have inside jokes to entertain bronies who watch it, the producers did state that its primary purpose was to show the brony fandom to people who know nothing about it.
