Twilight is not his goddamn mother.

And apparently nobody watched Crystal Empire 2. Suuurrrre Twilight hates Spike.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

She’s only kind to him in about half the episodes. In “Hurricane Fluttershy”, “Games Ponies Play”, “Spike at Your Service”, “Crystal Empire 1” and the first episode she could at best be described as neglectful and at worst abusive. And “Owl’s Well”, while showing she cares, also cares Twilight really dosen’t know how to raise a kid. It could be a fascinating character study/dynamic: The young mother who loves her son but goes about raising him wrong, and the son who loves his mom, but suffers from neglect and begins to wonder if he was conditioned to love her as part of his job.

Of course, since Hasbro dosen’t treat Spike as a serious character I doubt it.

Am I the only one who thinks that the whole Twilight/Spike relationship isn’t all too unclear?

Spike was hatched by Twilight. Spike saw her as a mother figure, and Twilight assumed the role. Even if Twilight didn’t understand what friendship really was at that point, I’m sure she was attached to Spike and loved him like family/her closest friend, and it’s been that way ever since. Sure they disagree at times, but what siblings don’t? Yes, he doesn’t get as much screen time, and that’s a damn shame, but Spike has been living with Twilight ever since she was a filly. They obviously get along with each other and love each other, even if it hasn’t been the strict focus of any episode. It’s easy to see both Spike and Twilight care about each other in Owl’s Well That Ends Well, Dragon Quest, Crystal Empire (especially that door scene), etc. There doesn’t need to be an episode that completely explains everything to figure this out.

Am I seriously the only one who thinks this?

Twilight and Spike relationship is very ambiguous. We have been through 3 seasons and still is not very clear what their relationship is supposed to be.

Sometimes Twilight shows she cares about him and shows him love, other times she doesn’t give a shit and pushes him around.

I think that Twilight’s ascension to princesshood is not going to help in their relationship.

I’m guessing we will have a new intro for season 4 after Twi’s transformation, so I really hope they will add him in the picture. Spike is basically Twilight’s oldest friend (not counting Shining Armor as bbbff) so he deserves the spot!

@ClownDicks
Well, you got me there.

But still, when twilight shows she cares, it’s very sincere (the crystal empire really nailed it). Though I agree, I wish for consistency with their relationship, because it isn’t all hugs and kisses with her. Sometimes she is cruel. Writers, stick with something already.

I’m just messing with you.

But in all seriousness, they call him friend several times in the show, and the fact that he actually likes to assist twilight, rather than being forced to. And plus, in a show called “Friendship is magic” a show meant for little kids, you’re overthinking it a bit.

I take it you don’t like spike.

Or rather, you’re one of those people who believe the “spike is a slave” theory that is very unrealistic.

I like this picture more, because he’s at least in it.

The show acknowledges him as being one of twilight’s closest friends, so he should’ve been in the shot. But I guess he could’ve taken the picture.
