Had to give my boi Spike one more upload for good measure. I think he is a very underrated and unexplored character in the show. I’m curious of so many things from his origins, to his abilities, to even how he got his name. Throughout the series, he’s mostly been known as “Twilight’s assistant.”, but surely there’s more to him than that. One of my biggest curiosities happens to be the origins of his magic green fire. Watching a few episodes I noticed that he has two fire breaths: A normal orange one that most dragons like him seem to possess (As seen in the Equestria Games episode), and a green one that as we all know, allows him to magically teleport written scrolls and messages to Princess Celestia. That latter breath hasn’t been shown to be used by any other dragon, and it appears that the messages that Spike sends can only be received by the Princess herself. I’m sure there have been many theories throughout the years of how Spike is able to use this flame, but I had a little theory of my own. It is a known fact that Princess Celestia raised him on her own for the earliest times of his life. I imagine that she raised him until he was about a year old. Once he was old enough, he would have to be given away to Twilight’s family. But deep down what if Celestia didn’t necessarily want to give him away? What if she became emotionally attached to him while he was in her care, becoming somewhat of the child she never had, but secretly wanted? I like to think that she was even the one who named him, because as a famous one-eyed monster once said “Once you start naming it, you start getting attached to it”. Even though she knew that he would have to leave, she didn’t want to truly part with him. So as one last parting gift, she blessed him with a special ability; One that would not only assist Twilight in the future, but also bind the two of them together, forever. It’s my personal theory, albeit heartbreaking.
