Though she may be small, don’t underestimate her as she has attacked others way bigger than her before, with scratches and bites. However, she only attacks when she feels threatened, protecting her loved ones or just frighteningly feeling vengeful. She is short-tempered and impatient and fancies getting or doing what she wants when she wants it and being treated with status. You may be wondering, “why in the he// is she such a fussy brat”, we’ll, when you live in an almost fatherless household, with a “trying not to be distressed” single mother giving her all as a stubby mare to protect her babies, and the only man in the house (which is her twin brother) is an arrogant wuss that is a follower under the wrong influences, then yeah, most times she finds herself being the one defending herself and her family and making sure their on track. And frankly, sometimes it gets tiring. She finds herself wanting to be independent, but also subconsciously still wanting to help her mother cope with loneliness and toughen her brother’s mentality. So occasionally, she may take on some rebellious liberties, like dying her hair (though she knew Rarity loved her beautiful thick white hair), wanting to permanently change her name to Onyx (and’ll attack anypony who calls her Jade without her permission), and trying to go off and make her own gemstone business. This may come off as angsty and tryhard…. And honestly, it is XP, but it helps “her” tolerate life.Obsession and over-thinking are some more negative characteristics about her. Sure over-thinking with the right thoughts can lead to creativity and analyzing, which does happen to her often (as she shapes gems and would like for them to look unique and flawless), however her mind is 75% edginess, so interpret that as you will >-<. Now obsessing (especially dealing with ponies she likes [Val] and relationships) is an unhealthy trait she gained from her mother. Sooo, certain unfair causes may lead to nightmarish effects (if you catch my drift 🤠…. Ahem Nightmare Onyx). And Onyx is mentally weaker than her mom when it comes to sharing relationships, soooooo yeeahh.Pity her as you may, but she does have “some” redeeming traits. With the right ponies, she can be thoughtful and compassionate (especially with Valentine 👀). She’ll be a lot more open and light hearted, and may show a childish personality. Something that she hides as she wants to come off as sophisticated and mature. Venting or letting out bottled emotions is another thing she finds hard to do, but with that right one to talk to, she can feel better and happier. In fact, ponies that make her feel comfort instantly earn her respect, and also her interest and dedication. And that’s rare, “very rare”. Everyone else is just dead to her💀 (jk XP). And also, though she does it in a stern way, she deeply loves her family (Rarity and Ignatius), and’ll do anything for them. It’s just that she doesn’t want to admit it and get “too” attached, as she envisions herself leaving the nest soon.RELATIONSHIPS☆ Rarity: Onyx loves her to BITS, but geez, isn’t she a hoof full… Having to deal with two kids alone paired with being lonely in the first place straps Rarity in for an emotional roller-coaster every week. And Onyx also has to deal with her mother’s distress. Sure it gets tiresome, but Onyx learns to endure it and continue to embrace her mom with open arms. Besides that, Rarity on the other hoof is a hesitant supportive mother of Onyx. Why hesitant, because Rarity is mildly off-putted by the changes Onyx had made to herself, but also tries to support her as she doesn’t want to be “that type of parent”. Rarity understands she’s becoming an independent mare and wants to leave, but Rarity doesn’t want that (that’s her wittle pageant girl 🥺). And also because, if it’s not Luna, as you can see, Onyx is the one that Rarity can vent to. Onyx does notice this and is a bit irritated, but shrugs it off as she’ll continue to do whatever she wants. However, in the back of her mind, she reminds herself to stay with her mom until things subside, as she fears bad things may happen if she were to leave Rarity now. What a daughter. -w-☆Spike: He’s not a bad dad, if anything he’s astounding! But Onyx with her pessimistic self only views Spike as “the dad that spoils you and takes you on fun trips just to make up for the parenting his missed” type of dad… The fun trips and expensive gifts become repetitive and old after a certain age. Onyx thinks it’s just a cheap way to get her to like him; “It’s kinda hard to, considering the state he put mom in. Jeune, stupide, bâtard,” Onyx scoffs (she understands that Rarity is the one that broke up with him, and that everything was her fault. But by all biased means, Rarity raised her and Onyx still can’t help but feel bitter). Rarity has to constantly keep telling her to stop viewing Spike the way she does, and love him regardless of the past. I mean, Onyx does loves her father, but she doesn’t like him (there’s a difference -_- ). And Spike, sensitive as he is, is very upset about the situation and tries to understand the problem and fix it, but fails. He doesn’t want his daughter to dislike him. He thought he was doing good ;w;. He hopes that this gets resolved and that his daughter understands that what he has been doing for her wasn’t meant to upset her, and was meant to show that he’s willing to give up his resources for her. Giving expensive gifts and going on trips is the only thing he can afford to do unfortunately. Onyx just needs to find forgiveness and more understanding.☆ Ignatius: Her pompous brother who is more of a wimp than she is lol, but she loves him and cares for him as if he was her younger brother (which he is by like 10 minutes). She’s protective over him, and’ll destroy anyone that hurts him. However, she tries to let him fend for himself. Nowadays he’s out more than ever with his friends, and so is she. So they haven’t been hanging out much lately. However, when they were younger, the twins were inseparable, as twins typically are. They shared gifts and toys, binge ate all of the cookies in the jar, played dress up, you name it; two peas in a pod they were. Currently, they’re just young adults trying to find their way out of mama’s nest. But occasionally, they’ll treat themselves with their favorite desserts at Sugarcube Corner (Onyx favorite sweets are angel cake and gingerbread cupcakes), or even gossip in one or the other’s bedroom but that’s it XP.☆Valentine: “Oh Valentine, Valentine, wherefore art thou Valentine?” (Oh boy -w-). She’s an amazing childhood friend of hers and somepony to vent to finally that is 100% supportive of it. Val is Onyx’s serotonin, her girlfriend to be… But she hasn’t mustered up the courage to say anything, as it may go over Val’s head or she thinks that Val wants to stay as friends (see, Onyx the over thinker! Ō-ō). Regardless, Val still thinks Onyx is cute and a smol Dragzilla, and will always be there for her. They’ll continue to repeatedly watch ancient Dragzilla movies and read Lovecraftian novels together while getting fat off of strawberries. (Val is the only one outside of her family who can call her Jade).Starry Night: (Moondancer’s son) A great Canterlot friend of hers. He is a fashion writer/journalist and helps Onyx advertise her gemstone business across Canterlot. He crashed into her one day during one of Rarity’s trips as Onyx had a little gemstone jewelry stand outside of Rarity’s boutique. Starry was curious, and being a big fan of Rarity’s work, he checked Onyx’s jewelry out. “Marvelously dazzling darling, keep it up. I’ll be sure to make you a notorious diamond”!, he said enthusiastically. Onyx was flattered that she made her first customer, and this customer would soon be her friend and helpful companion in her business journey.EXTRA☆ “Bedazzled Jewelry” is what Onyx will call her jewelry store. Her slogan would go like, “Be dazzled, be jeweled!”.☆Yes, she’s fluent in French and may cuss you out in it (thanks to Rarity XP)☆100% Goth. Her hair and claws were indeed originally white. She dyes her hair and paints her claws almost monthly.☆ A Big ole rock nerd. And like Maud, may secretly have a pet rock named Geo (it’s a geode).☆ Going back to her relationship with Val, Onyx has been planning on giving her a necklace that she made for her. The pendant is made out of a pretty emerald Val found on a cave trip she had with Onyx and Rarity. However, typical Onyx procrastinates too much and doesn’t think that Val would like it (even though we all know she will).☆ Dove…Onyx doesn’t like her, and never will. Mentioning the nightmare version of her, Onyx doesn’t know that she has one inside of her, though she’s familiar with what they are. Envy and greed are the two main emotions that can awaken her nightmare. So when she’s feeling a bit overwhelmed by those two emotions, she feels a horrible dreadful dark presence within herself. She doesn’t know what it is. Honestly, she hates this feeling and may get misty-eyed when she feels it.☆ Similar sounding voice to Esmerelda’s from Hunchback of Notre Dame (basically shares the same name XP). If not, she just has a fairly deep and sassy French accented sounding voice.
