actually it varies from state to state, in some states, first cousins can marry with no restrictions. in others, they can get married if they cannot reproduce and/or get genetic counseling

can’t post the link but the website is cousincouples.com and has all the state laws listed

Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt were fifth cousins. Mary Todd and Abraham Lincoln were not related - she was the cousin of two of his law partners. You are correct about Albert and Elsa Einstein. In fact, they were both first and second cousins (their mothers were sisters, their fathers were first cousins). Their marriage does not seem to have been illegal, and more people were worried about her desire for fame than their relatedness.

For most of human history, cousin marriages have been condoned. It’s hard not to be related when families stay in the same area for hundreds of years (even my father and his first wife, whose families lived in the same town for a mere 10 generations, were fourth cousins).

Under current US law, marriage between first cousins is incest, but it is the most distant relationship that is covered. Even first cousins once removed are fair game.

FDR married his cousin.
So did Abraham Lincoln.
So did Albert Einstein.

I don’t think it’s necessarily the same as being with a sibling, parent, uncle, etc. Cousins only share one-eighth their genes, so genetic abnormalities really aren’t amplified that much if the couple chooses to reproduce.

TL;DR I support this shipping!!

Since when does being involved with a cousin not equal incest, regardless of WHERE it is? Blood-related = incest, no matter how closely or distantly related.

Dude what if like, there’s some recessive immortality gene, and the massive incest in the apple family has given them insane longevity?

Except for AJ’s parents. They got the “asploded by a truck” gene.
