Hello, just some mlp sketches and whatnot-1.) Honestly, just wanted to draw some fluffy BIRBS again ÚwÙ. It’s a comparison between the biggest most recent “Avequus” (bird-horse), Hippogriffs, and the smallest, Miniature Pegasus. Kinda also wanted to do a bit more of a redesign with Skystar. Her beak is really the only difference though XP. I wanted her to appear more parrot-like as Hippogriffs in mlp are seen as tropical or islander species, such as some parrots are. But I don’t want her looking “too” much like a parrot, as another species like the Aarakocra exists (Captain Celaeno and her crew, a.k.a Parrot Pirates). So, Hippogriffs are more or less mainly based on exotic, tropical birds.☆ One more thing that I forgot to really delve into about bird-pony species is their elemental connections with water and air. I personally have this idea that each pony species (and related/subspecies) have their own connections with white magic or elemental magic, namely spirit/aether, fire, earth, water and air. Unicorns are fire (and spirit/aether), Earth ponies are well…. Earth, and pegasus are the divided waters of the sky and sea (air and water).
Back when Avequus were one species and undivided (before some traveled inland), “The Pearl” was way more important than you think. The Pearl was a blessing brought down by Mater Gaia Galaxia, the creator of their world, but only royalty could control it. This powerful artifact was used to transform Avequus into Seaponies (Seahorses/ Hippocampus) and traverse the underwater world beneath them, to create civilizations and gain more food. This also allowed them to control bodies of water, on or off land (but only when The Pearl is magically activated or when they’re in its power range).
The Avequus that traveled inland are, like I said before, the pegasus we know and love. And obviously, since the pegasus are far away from The Pearl, they couldn’t continue controlling bodies of water and turn into Seaponies. Avequus were naturally known for their connections with the air, so pegasus are (of course) more likened to the sky. Pegasus are important for weather and seasonal control. Without them, crops wouldn’t have water to grow them, meaning starvation, and ponies wouldn’t know the seasons (something that’s also important for agriculture and farming).☆BTW, Avequus back then (for comparison) were way bigger than Clydesdale horses, if not almost two feet taller (7-8ft ÔoÔ)! I’m glad they only ate arthropods, but mainly fruits >~< (frugivores).☆ In this picture, I can imagine the two hanging with each other after finding out their roots and history and chatting about how cool it is and that they must be related XP. For some reason, I’d feel like Rainbow Dash would become a family historian, as it all started when she found out she was related to Flash Magnus, then in return Twilight’s crush, Flash Sentry. Perhaps she wanted to delve deeper to find out more, and surely she did. Though she may be small, she’s proud that she evolved from the biggest pony species. Something to flex about huh? They can come in many shapes, sizes and designs, but right here, I’m using my lovely Onyx/Jade as an example ÚwÙ. These hybrid Non-indigenous Kirin can also apply to another pony species with a dragon, as ponies have no idea what to call them other than “hybrids”. However doctors assume that the word hybrid would be offensive and just stuck with the species that the hybrid closely resembles.☆ Moveover on the little notes I have for them (especially regarding Rarity’s kids), they have a distinct look and nature to them. Starting with appearance, I feel like they would look like stubby rejected perissodactyla from the Jurassic period, especially closer to the rhinoceros side of things. Like I said in the notes, their skin is (will for Jade and Ignatius) smooth, though and foldy, resulting in extra skin at every joint XP.☆Their claws are actually dole or mildly sharp, however Onyx likes to sharpen up hers. And surprisingly they can hold stuff pretty while with them (considering that Onyx is a Lapidist).☆Though mixed with a hairless, even featherless dragon, she’s still able to grow a beautiful mane, in this case a silky and thick mane since her mom is a unicorn, and their hair is always flawless ÛwÛ. And in replacement for spikes, she has hair trailing from her back to the tip of her tail.☆ Mentioning spikes, I can imagine their horn (if mixed with a unicorn and dragon) to resemble their parent’s dragon horn and then the other parent’s unicorn horn. The magic held within the horn can differ. For Onyx, she can easily learn and use magic with it (though her magical aura looks like a flame). However, her brother, Ignatius, can only create fire out of his.☆ On the topic of fire, well at least for Onyx and Ignatius, they can’t breathe fire, only cast it through a typical magic spell.☆Their tails are long and sturdy, similar to a kangaroo, as it helps for balancing. Especially when they’re standing (at the current size that Onyx is in this drawing). Now when they are younger, like any other young dragon, they can effortlessly alternate from bipedal to quadrupedal. But once they get older, their little, yet still fairly strong legs can’t support their upper body weight as much, even with the help of their tail.☆ Don’t worry, her teeth may look frightening, and well you should still be scared, but a Non-indigenous Kirin’s diet would basically be a horse’s, but with gems thrown into the mix. And thanks to the sharper teeth and strong jaw, they can eat fleshier fruits, tougher vegetables, and gemstones in the rough (rough gems are easier to eat btw).☆How they would sleep, I imagine it would be similar to how a dragon would sleep then a pony. All scrunched up, sitting up and or curled. It compacts more heat for their mostly hairless (or sparsely hairy) body.☆ Everything else can be determined by different designs. However, if y’all want to use a similar design to mine, go ahead!^^
However, I will say that I was inspired by kianamai designs for her next-gen characters Crystal Clarity and Turquoise Blitz. SO, GO SUPPORT HER NOW!! I don’t deserve the credit!
