It can’t be a coincidence that a Grootslang showed up on the day the seed arrived in the village after none have been seen for decades. Did it sense the seed somehow? If so other Grootslang might be able to sense it too and more might be on the way. Ask the unicorns if they have any idea on how to hide the seed’s magical signature. Then try to come up with a contingency plan in case of more monster attacks.
You walk over to Moonflower’s bed, and gently place the Yggdrasil seed by her side where it belongs.
Starbolt: “Is that the new Oracle’s Eye?”
You nod, and give the glowing orb a thoughtful look. If a grootslang came looking for it so soon after it arrived here, you can’t help but fear that it wasn’t a coincidence. You wonder what other fiends will come after it, and when.
Crystal Charm: “Well, you’ve got a point; powerful relics do tend to attract the worst kinds of uglies. Although, I was certain that the cave to the Heart of the Everfree was locked off. Did you see where that grootslang came from, by chance?”
You tell Crystal Charm that you found it using her lens of honesty, and that it was hiding in a waterfall, hanging from above.
Crystal Charm: “Above, huh? According to Sapphire Kite, those beasties hide in the water, but they don’t like the cold. We could cut them off at the source with a spell of freezing water along the river to the north. Not a foolproof solution, I’ll admit, but it’s a start.”
Apple Basket: “How about some sorta grate to keep ‘em out? Like a sewer grate. Uh, not that I think this town looks anythin’ like a sewer! Just, uh, well, the Undercity sorta had somethin’ like that goin’ for it, right?”
You nod. However, you are reminded that in the end, no physical barrier was enough to keep the forces of evil at bay. You ask the unicorn if there is any way to simply conceal the seed’s presence from those who would seek it out.
Crystal Charm: “Hmmm… if that’s possible, then it’s out of my league. A higher level unicorn might know better than I. Not that it would prevent the word from spreading, mind you; you know how widespread rumors tend to become.”
The sound of rustling sheets behind you catches your attention. You turn to find Moonflower slowly stirring awake.
Moonflower: “Mmh… Ah—! What happened?!”
The bat pony sits up in distress, but immediately settles down at the sight of her friends. You greet her with some calming nuzzles, and let her know that she collapsed when the grootslang attacked.
Moonflower: “The grootslang! Oh, Starbolt! Wait, how long’s it been?”
Starbolt: “Just a few minutes. A medic said that you used up too much magic. Did you try to reach me through a dream?”
Moonflower: “Oh yeah! I remember askin’ you to get help. Was it in a dream? It just sorta… happened. Is everypony safe? I feel like I missed everythin’!”
Apple Basket: “Heh, I reckon Trailblazer knows how that feels.”
You crack a smile at that, then take a moment to recount the events that transpired earlier. Moonflower sighs in relief upon hearing about the militia’s timely arrival.
Moonflower: “That could’a been bad. I hope nopony got hurt.”
Crystal Charm: “Why don’t we go and check on them? If anything, I’m sure they’ll be delighted to see that their oracle is safe and sound.”
