Why does this arc strike me as one big Super Mario Bros. shout out? Is it because in any other show Rarity would be either a beloved princess or a charity minded debutante and here she gets kidnapped and mind-raped by a monstrous villain? Is it because Spike despite being rather close in age is somewhat shorter? Is it because he can jump higher than say Pinkie or Applejack and can also shoot fireballs? It’s probably all of the above.
