Interesting, I guess that makes sense. But wouldn’t other UK based holidays like the one’s I mentioned be carried over too? Since America’s population originated from the UK?

It’s because of the MASSIVE wave of Irish immigrants that came to America in the 1800s, I think. I could be wrong, though.
Why do Americans celebrate an Irish tradition? You don’t see them celebrate St. Andrews, St. George’s or St. Davids day, do you?
They probably mean it’s an American tradition.
