The problem is just poutine.
Someone who imprisons everyone who is “against war”.
It is not for nothing that even the Russians leave their country for fear of what Putin is doing.

I know the Western media have an agenda and that the real story isn’t that Putin is just a villain who wants to destroy things and take territory. However, the fact that Russia has some legitimate concerns and some people in Eastern Ukraine want to be part of Russia does not justify the tremendous degree of suffering Russia is inflicting on Ukraine. It is disproportionate.
Anyway, the way I see it, the war is really about Western companies wanting to extract natural gas from Ukraine. Look at where they have discovered natural gas - it’s in the ocean near Crimea. If that were to be extracted, Ukraine could sell their own gas through the pipelines to Europe and bypass Russia. Russia needs the money from the gas to pay for their government. Putin has given a lot of rewards to his supporters to stay in power, and that money needs to come from somewhere. Ukraine does not threaten Russia with a military threat, but an economic one.
Putin, instead of pushing an anti-corruption initiative, fully embraced corruption / kleptocracy in Russia, and needs the natural gas money to keep his key supporters happy and stay in power, and to keep the military up. Ukraine becoming close to the West is a problem not for the strategic reasons he says, as it is absurd to think that NATO would launch a war of aggression against a nuclear power, but for the economic reason that Ukraine could cut off the money flow to Russia by letting Western companies extract its natural resources.

As for your next comment, I am afraid you’re already misled by your own media. But hey, for someone talking about Ukraine, I’d rather not take my take from China.
