This is probably because of the ‘Ask the crusaders’ tumblr. As far as I know, no one ever did anything interesting with Shady, so he never gained much popularity.
Saw him being shipped with Scootaloo once.
Even his “twin brother”, Buttons is well known.
In fact this guy hasn’t been shipped with any canon ponies yet.
