Let’s let him finish his festival preparations, but promise we’ll catch up with him later and tell him about our adventure. For now, we should look for the mayor and ask him if the festival could use a whole village of bat ponies to spice things up.
When you and Moonflower finally release Windcaller, you tell him that you won’t be keeping him from his preparations any longer, and add that you’ll catch up with him properly after the festival.
Windcaller: “Of course. I… hope to see you all there.”
You nod, and with one last group hug, you bid him farewell before he resumes his walk back home. As you watch him leave, you are struck by an idea. You turn to Moonflower, and ask whether the bat ponies would be interested in attending the festival.
Moonflower: “Ooh, maybe! The festival sounds like nothin’ we’ve ever done before. Is it gonna be kinda like the one in Amblerta, ya think?”
Apple Basket: “With less eatin’ and more playin’, from the looks of it. Y’all never have any parties?”
Moonflower: “We get together when a pony joins or leaves the clan, or for rituals, but those are all pretty rare. And they’re nothin’ like this.”
Moonflower gestures broadly to the lively town square. Not far from you, ponies begin hammering a wooden frame together. A bit further away, one pony holds a streamer while the other end is flown to a nearby rooftop. Over by the next house, flowery planter boxes are being levitated up to the windowsills.
After witnessing the bat ponies enjoy their time outside earlier, you can’t help but imagine how much fun they could have at this festival, and suggest asking the mayor to consider formally inviting them.
Moonflower: “I dunno if they’ll go, but s’worth askin’. Right behind ya!”
After being greeted by Sapphire Kite at the mayor’s quarters, and being escorted to Hoofingold’s office, you thank the armoured mare, and enter the opened door before you.
You find Mayor Hoofingold sitting at a desk overflowing with stacks of paper. When he looks up from his work to see you enter, his eyes light up with cheer.
Hoofingold: “Well, well! Trailblazer! No sooner did you return to our little town that I already hear about the good deeds you and your friends have done for our solitary neighbours. Speaking of whom, welcome to Hoofington! Any friends of Trailblazer are friends of mine.”
You greet the mayor, and take a moment to introduce your companions.
Hoofingold: “Ahh, Sugarloaf’s nephew, you say? I met the old salt what must be twenty summers ago. Small world! And the Oracle of the Starfalls Clan herself? Well then! My beard tells me you aren’t here for idle chatter.”
You nod, and after telling Hoofingold about the situation surrounding the Starfalls Clan’s relocation, you follow with what you had in mind for the morrow’s event.
Hoofingold: “Hmm… now, it wouldn’t be the first time we invited them, but you say there’s a chance they’d accept this time? If that’s the case, then we could even extend the festival, and prolong the nighttime activities. I think everypony would like that!
Ah, but as exciting as that all sounds, I’m afraid I’m getting ahead of myself. Believe me, I would love nothing more than to welcome everypony here, but I must admit that I am in a bit of a pickle at the moment.
You see, my dear wife Autumn Skies is usually in charge of the food. Head chef, no less! Unfortunately, she has been feeling under the weather of late. Nothing too serious, don’t you worry — just a mild case of the feather flu she seems to have caught during her trip to Cloudsdale a few days ago.
Autumn Gold and Lucky Smith have been taking turns looking after their mother, but they are struggling to keep up with their own tasks. I worry that in this situation, the more wouldn’t be quite the merrier, you understand.”
Moonflower: “Aww, that’s okay. But wait! Is there a cure for the feather flu? Maybe we can help!”
Hoofingold: “Well, that’s just the thing. The apothecary in Ponyville usually sells medicine for it, but when I sent a runner to buy some, I was told that they were out of stock.
A shame, too — with the Royal Princess attending, it was shaping up to be our greatest festival yet! That she has to miss it… Ah, but I shouldn’t cry over spilled apple cider — my wife forbids it! Ho ho!”
