Everything is made with magnets in them, their hooves are also magnets. Mystery solved.

Which still requires explaining how it worked even when magic was gone.
@Background Pony #B27B PPG works because it’s a cartoon about superpowered children and thus not supposed to be taken seriously. MLP in contests is a cartoon about magical sapient ponies and is thus obligated to have 100% realism. (Seriously, where did that expectation come from?)
Note that the 3D models don’t have the articulation for a wrist hold. 2D let you fudge the designs for such, but 3D doesn’t have that luxury.

I remember one episodes where Pinkie held out an envelope with no grip but then you see she taped it to her hoof. Classic Pinks.
And yes, I hate how things just stick to their hooves with no explanation. It’s easy. Like they could say they have horseshoes that have a minor magnetic strength.

To be perfectly honest, I’m fine with magnet hooves. There is no universal way to justify all pony races being able to do all hand-required actions anyway, and many of the g4 solutions would look awkward in 3D. So screw it, grippy hooves.
I can accept my cartoons having cartoon logic.
