What’s funny is that if someone where to jump into the series and not hear that Applebloom was their sister, they could be forgiven for making the assumption they were her parents, what with the real parent having never been seen or heard of.

Actually, a really long time ago I read a fanfic that actually said they weren’t brother and sister, but just told Apple Bloom that for having her so young

Come to think of it.
 
If the Apple family only marries other ponies with apple related cutie marks and apple related cutie marks are VERY dominant in the family (out of all apple family ponies only Applebloom shows signs that she might have a non apple related talent).
 
Basically… they are probably incestous as hell.
