This! I screamed this on the highest mountain. Silent Hill 4:The Room was the only game in the series that actually scared me a few times.
Also Lyra needs to watch out for James might have a pillow. D:
I loved the third. Too bad the HD rerelease lost a lot of the grimy, otherworldly look the original version had.
I haven’t played Downpour. I was completely burnt out on the post-Team Silent sequels by then.
What about terrible NextGen-ports?
My favourite is the third one, it may be not as subtle and emotionally investing as the second, but it’s so damn grotesque and disturbing, I just HAVE to love it!
Also: Heather Beam
I also don’t hate (most) of the newer ones, it’s just, you always get the feeling, the new developers just don’t “get” what made the old Silent Hill (1-4, yes I enjoyed “The Room”) so engaging.
Definitely. But you have to admit that Pyramid Head cutting Murphy’s birthday cake in Downpour was hilarious, despite that game otherwise sucking.
Can we at least agree that Homecoming had the least-entertaining UFO ending in the series?
An onslaught of bad sequels doesn’t cheapen the value of the original games, and there’s always the chance one of them will be good. Homecoming was at least playable, and Shattered Memories was so different I don’t even consider it a Silent Hill game, but on it’s own is one of the best games I’ve ever played.
I disagree. I’d rather a series end on a relative high note than slip down in quality as much as the post-Team Silent games. Because I seriously found them terrible.
I think Homecoming was better than The Room in terms of gameplay itself, The Room at least had that same charm that the other three had, and Homecoming didn’t.
Apparently, though, the original team was sick to death of Silent Hill by number 4 (and it shows), so I’d rather have half-assed sequels by another team than no sequels at all. At least they’re still playable.
The Room was the weakest of the four games made by the original team, but it was still better than any of the later games.
This. I Thissed so hard that I broke my This key. Though I’ll admit the only one I actually didn’t like was The Room. It was okay, but I just got bored with it like a third of the way through.
