Hmm, if it were canon, would it merely be psychosomatic or a legit physiological condition… Like, it could be that the reason ponies go insane when they can’t fulfill their talents is because of how ponies are raised to take an immense amount of pride in their cutie marks to the point that I could see them going insane purely as a result of the societal pressures imposed upon them. but I can also see the cutie mark’s magic slowly ablating away at the pony’s mental state if they can’t live up to the talents dictated to them by their mark, therefore regardless of how the pony was raised they would still slowly go insane if prevented from doing what they’re magically gifted at.

After all these years, I am still of the opinion that Cutie Mark Failure Insanity Syndrome is a real thing, and should be considered canon.
