It’s that time again - time to gather all the pony lovers and get ready for an amazing My Little Pony design contest! Recently among our followers on Facebook, we did a “Who is your favorite Pony” poll; we had a lot of fun tallying your results and as it turns out, your favorite ponies were Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash! So what we’ve decided to do is have the Ponies and Villains face-off in two contests that will lead up to ONE grand prize winner!. There will be three weeks to submit your Villainous designs, followed by a three-week period where all MLP fans can rate on their favorite designs! We will award a first prize of $500, followed by Judge’s Pick for $300 and three $100 runners-up. And once again, there’s MORE!: After the conclusion of both contests, the 5 winners from each will be qualified to enter a separate The MY LITTLE PONY: PONIES VS. VILLAINS contest (Subject to Licensor Approval) where you can rate for two more weeks to crown a grand prize of $2,500! Get your pens, tablets, and thinking caps out and start drawing your favorite heroes and villains… it’s going to be the best contest EVER!
Good luck, every pony! :)
ABOUT OUR GUEST JUDGES
Big Jim Miller (Voice of King Sombra) is a cartoonist and storyboard artist living in Vancouver, BC, Canada. He is of proportionate height and weight (although he could stand to lose a few pounds), and spends the majority of his free time bounty hunting. His apartment is cluttered with a vast array of dorky accoutrement, dog hair and comic books. Jim worked as a storyboard artist for 10 years on Danny Antonuccis series Ed, Edd n Eddy on Cartoon Network, and has since moved on to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic as storyboard artist, storyboard supervisor, and now co-director for the upcoming fourth season. He also illustrates a cartoon strip called Mystery Solved! written by Zack Kruse, which appears bi-monthly in Skeptical Inquirer magazine. See more of Jims work on his rarely updated blog at bigjimsucks.blogspot.com You can also follow him on Twitter at @TheBiggestJim.

fuck you. sombra is boss
Iron Will: Not a Villain. not even a bad guy. Fluttershy just took his lessons the wrong way. and he just wanted to get paid for his efforts after it was all done.
Trixie: Not originally a Villain, just a performer who got pointlessly ridiculed. LAter Became a Villain but apologized and turned in her Villain Card.
Cockatrice & Hydra: Not so much Villains as hostile local fauna. To qualify as a Villain, there has to be a certain amount of sinister intent behind your actions. The Hydra was just Hungry and the Cockatrice was just defending its territory.
Sombra: Half-assed Villain, but still a Villain. His design may be lazy and uninspired, his motivations are vague at best, and he has almost no development whatsoever, but he still counts as an actual Villain since what he did was an act with Malicious intent; conquest and enslavement of the Crystal Ponies.
Chrysalis: Definitely a Villain and my personal favorite one at that. Her motivations are clear, her plan is fairly methodical, her design is interesting. And of course she’s down right sinister.
Discord: another favorite since he’s really more of a Pseudo-Villain. Discord’s whole reason for messing with things is that he finds them unamusing. His only motivation for turning Equestria’s laws of physics on their head is for a good laugh. While most Villains are out to get something or just maybe after petty vengeance, he’s just a general dick and a troll. And I like that.
Nightmare Moon: Archetype Villain right here. Absolute standard Villain right here. Classic dark design theme, old-school plans for world conquest, obvious Villainous motivation. She’s a bit of a cheesy villain, yes. But she’s a great one all the same
“You’re not a villain, Iron Will.”
“He kind of is!”
Meh, I agree.
The first thing I’d ask is to define “villain”.
GOD DAMNIT!
I think some artists can definitely go for that.
