Regardless of whether Opaline was born an alicorn or ascended as an alicorn, it is almost guaranteed that she will be angry when she sees Sunny - an earth pony - in her intermediate alicorn mode - and will find it a mockery of everything an alicorn stands for . According to Discord, she had ideas of a “perfect Equestria”, suggesting that she has conservative views of what pony society should be, thus her ambitions to take pony magic under her control. For her, an earth pony as an alicorn will be an insult, and it will be worse when she realizes that the Unity Crystals prefer this earth pony to herself.

She will personally see Sunny Starscout’s existence as a mockery, against her world view of how the ponies’ society should be, with established and nailed down beliefs about alicorns, earth ponies, pegasi and the unicorns.

A beautiful enmity may arise between Opaline and Sunny. As between Vegeta and Goku from the Dragon Balls. Maybe they will become friends in the end when Sunny becomes a real alicorn and they have to unite against The Big Bad at the end of G5.
