I see your point, they definitely weren’t in on the plan either way. I just thought they may have thought he was sacrifing himself because of the sad looks on their faces. I was thinking they would react with anger instead if they thought he was giving up the magic thinking he’s finna make things even worse.

Of course, the efficacy of such a thing is rather undermined when she wasn’t even three minutes ago being gloat-happy about her imminent murder of the Remane Six (Five + Spike), before Chrysalis told her to have patience. It goes to show how pathological she is about it, and she was also too caught up in the prospect of gaining more power to not immediately catch onto the fact Discord was unlikely to be honest about it to begin with, as Tirek did.

Most likely the former; at least on Spike’s part, he seemed like he’d rather die than have them just be made more unstoppable (which is kinda backed up by him trying to be self-sacrificing when Chrysalis was… doing her thing later)… not that any agreement was ever particularly likely to be honored to begin with on their parts, making it a full-on lose-lose situation.
