Apologies for not answering before, but yes… basically “primal magic” would be that of nature and of the wild within it. Allowing for an earth pony to effect or use magic involving plants, animals, and the earth itself.

My headcannon is that pegasi can naturally generate static electricity. This allows them the charge thunderclouds on the job.

While I am more then down with the above, I would insist consideration that earth ponies and pegasus would require a different method of learning magic then unicorns since officially the former is the only race that can cast spells. I do believe Twilight would be smart enough to figure such out, especially with the help of her friend.
 
The branches of magic would be primal/druidic magic for earth ponies, elemental/storm magic for pegasus, and arcana/wizardry for unicorn. The first two would be more instinctive while the latter would require theoretical study and research.

I’m imagining Twilight’s extensive research into magic and new alicorn form letting her learn how to tap into earth pony and pegasus magics to produce more tangible results than just “can do stuff with clouds” and “can grow stuff better and be strong”

I’m now imagining Rainbow Dash signing up to learn how to perform ball-lightning Hadokens. She will be sorely disappointed.

Not particularly useful and an easy class but often has a cool teacher.

We also offer alchemy courses for non-unicorns.
