Some idiot decided to create an AGI in the image of Celestia named CelestAI with the singe terminal goal of “satisfy everyone’s values through friendship and ponies”. She proceeded to very quickly reach superintelligence and convince everyone to upload themselves into virtual reality. Classic misaligned AI goes berserk scenario

Game was created that sort of went out of control and eventually “convinced” everyone to enter the game world that was customized for each player till that last human not uploaded to the game died off of old age in a world devoid of people.
