I think it’s both. In this very scene Izzy mentions that she’s told her hugs can be pretty heavy-duty and Misty mentions she often cries over not having any lunch, plus in later scenes Misty can’t believe how good ponycorn tastes and takes every opportunity she can get to eat more of it.
