Because they only care about power and looks than heart and trufulness. It’s like how we only care about celebrities when they look pretty, handsome, or rich, but not many people care about a celebritiy’s real self.

Using that logic, wouldn’t Sunny be a celebrity either way? She is the pony responsible for re-uniting all of the pony species across Equestria, after all. Also, even as a normal Earth pony Sunny still has the same face, meaning she should still be recognizable as the Alicorn they were obsessed over.

Hm…I wonder why ponies are so obsessed with Alicorns.
No wonder it was so easy for Celestia, Luna, and Twilight to rule over them. If Sunny was more confident of herself and her ability to lead as an Alicorn, then she would be the new Princess of Maretime Bay, lol.
