You know, I’m not a fan of Twitter old nor new, but the funny part is… I have no reason to believe any of the people cited in that medium.com post. They consist of Elon Musk (who has lied about darn near everything related to Twitter for months, including the things he wanted to do with it) and a bunch of cryptobros. So I really have no impetus to take their claims at face value.
And, of course, it turns out Elon’s revised blue checkmarks came with zero verification whatsoever. Within a matter of hours, what used to mean “Twitter is sure these people are who they present to be,” it became “This account paid us $8.” Twitter employees told him this would happen ahead of time and he did it anyway, to (literally) predictable results.
Paying $8 for verification wouldn’t be dumb, per se. The dumb part is that Elon offered the new meaning for Blue without anything in place to actually do the verifying.

Again depends on the manufacturer, and most of them don’t bundle WinZip. WinZip is just a file archiver like 7-zip. Those collections of preinstalled software are usually from the manufacturers themselves. It has nothing to do with WinZip. But then again, the MF isn’t paying for WinZip. He’s paying for Twitter.
@cdcdrr
Or paying for license agreements in general.
@cdcdrr
Except you’re not paying for authentication. You’re paying for their version of Discord Nitro. The blue checkmark’s just going from a status symbol to a subscription symbol.
@angryprogrockbrony
Winzip has been owned by Corel for the past decade ish. Those weird collections of preinstalled software programs you use because they came free and you’re too lazy to install the “real stuff”? That’s the Winzip package. You might not get the Winzip front end but you’re paying for it.
If you’ve ever bought a prebuilt computer in the past 10ish years, you paid for winzip.
This isn’t true. Not every prebuilt computer bundles winzip. Come to think of it, I’ve never even heard of winzip until just now and I’ve bought prebuilt computers from several different manufacturers.
Should have said If you’ve ever bought a prebuilt computer in the past 10ish years, you paid for Windows (unless you bought a Macbook or a Chromebook or any other prebuilt computer that doesn’t come with Windows).
Paying for your own authenticity if an even bigger scam than paying for a license agreement for WinZip. I have no sympathy for the money you lose doing so, and you’re a cuck if you hand Elon your hard-earned dollars on a silver platter.

And so will the rest of you.
