…It’s a parody of this.

Rainbow Dash herself is a parody of Dagwood, the male protagonist of the comic (hence, “Rainbow Dag”). One of the comic’s prominent features is the “Dagwood Sandwich”, basically a really tall sandwich that Dagwood likes to make. Another recurring gag is when Dagwood rushes out of his house only to slam right into the mailman, just like what happens here.
